Top 5 selling games of 2008 worldwide

On February 2, 2009, in Sales, by Jeff Rivera

It’s no surprise that Nintendo took 3 of the top 5 spots, but it’s a little surprising that Call of Duty managed to outpace some of the big hitters like Metal Gear Solid 4, Gears of War 2, Rocak Band 2, and Guitar Hero: World Tour. Here’s the list.

  1. Mario Kart Wii – 8,940,0000
  2. Wii Fit – 8,310,000
  3. Grand Theft Auto IV – 7,290,000
  4. Super Smash Bros. Brawl – 6,320,000
  5. Call of Duty: World at War – 5,890,000

The COD WaW was piggybacking with success of the better COD 4.

That is weird, I was thinking that GTA4 was the best selling game of all time.

GTA 4 had the fastest selling launch of all time. One thing about World at War, I’m sick of the WW2 games I liked what they did with 4 better. I would have thought Gears 2 would be on the list and I definitely would have guessed that Rock Band 2 would be.

Japan really skews things away from Rock Band 2 and Gears of War and more toward the Nintendo titles. I am also a little tired of the WWII theme for shooters, but at least World at War was a good game. I still find Call of Duty 4 far more interesting, but World at War is still enjoyable to me.
