I thought that Atari one looked like a tat - that is supposed to look like it was cut away. And, yeah, that is one arm - not two. (People can turn their arms to show different views?? No waaayyyy!!!) Most of these I like - but then I’m a gamer and a tattoo lover, so it works for me. The chick with the pac man tat actually had more done, so it makes more sense now. The only one I don’t like is the level up tat - but not because of the ink because it’s on her chest. That’s all.

I actually am interested in tattoos, but the main problem I have is people that are into tattoos always seem to glorify them, and make them into some sort of a lifestyle or religion. But it is incredibly hard to take them seriously, mainly due to the fact that copious amounts of alcohol and/or drugs were involved in the entire process; start to finish. The Atari sign is a tattoo. The “raised” skin and redness are due to the extent of the tattoo. There is a lot of very fine shading in the tat, that does’t show on the photo, due to it bieng a fresh tat.

There’s one simple way you can see it’s a tattoo. Reflection. See the shine of the light reflecting at the top? It doesn’t distort, like it would if the surface of the “cuts” was actually deeper. And see the reflection on the middle right? If the skin was cut, it wouldn’t reflect like that, on account of the surface bieng lower then the actual skin.

It’s pretty lame to get a tattoo like that with cutting and scarring readily available. I would say he’s a pussy but the chain around his neck tells me otherwise. Also sitting through those braids is hardcore. They are so bad! ;) The Nintendo sleeve is obviously one arm. The LVL Up tattoo is on the chest of a popular female “Geek Rapper”. The guy with the old skool gaming tattoo doesn’t have hairy nipples. They are actually tentacles that attach to prey and suck life from them. To me the fact the the PacMan tattoo girl has weird paper or something taped over her boobs instead of using her hands is far more bothersome than the terrible tat design. I have to imagine that she actually has no hands, therefore has never played PacMan but has always wanted to. That’s why the level is in the shape of the letter “Y”. Because “Y come I aint got no handz and can’t play no pacman!?” was way too expensive of a tattoo.

There are two problems with tattoos (IMHO):

1. If they are wonky or out of perspective

2. If they are of something that when you are 100 you are going to mortally embarrassed to show to the grandkids

I think most of the above fall into one of the two categories, but that is just my opinion. But it does make the argument of how many arms the guy had tattoo’d rather irrelevant.

I am a huge gamer. I own damn near every system that has ever been made and a around 10 arcade games. My game room is full of gaming paraphernalia on top of all the systems. I also have over 20 tatts. While a few and very few of the tatts posted above are original high quality work. The majority will be regretted for the rest of these peoples lives. They are down right ridiculous. These people will surely be at banging down the doors of a tattoo laser removal center in the next few years

Whether the captions were serious or not, the point of a tattoo is to express yourself. No one can tell you what to do with your body. As far as getting a job and having relationships, a tattoo does preclude one from having either a job or a relationship. You may not want to work with someone who has a tattoo, but that does not mean no one does. There are many people who have relationships (friends, lovers, family) with those with tattoos. I myself will one day have a kanji of the word “wolf” on my back. Regret comes in forms. These people may regret the decision to decorate their bodies, but that is not your call. They knew what they were getting into when they got their tattoos. Basically, what I am saying is lighten up!

i am the girl with the Atari tat on the back. and yes it is a tattoo. if i had cut the skin on my back i would have been bleeding a little. plus it’s outlined in black ink. it didn’t get infect, i had just got it done. being very pale, my skin got a little red. and I am the person who got the tattoo so i seriously doubt any of you need to be worried about how I’VE got to have it for the rest of my life. if you don’t like it don’t fucking look at it.

OK, I may be stupid to many of you. I love gamer tattoos. I have been playing Everquest for over 7 years now. So I started on my neck and did it all the way around. My artist did a great job. I then shaved my head, and had it tattooed to match, it was amazing with all the colors. This left me with my white glaring face staring back at me, so well FTW, I wanted it, and I had my face tattooed to match my neck and head. It is amazing. I wanted to do this and it has made me very happy so far. I still work as a waitress, and I usually get good comments about what I’ve done. I don’t think I will be running for the laser removal. It just took too much time, money, and all of that neat colorfull ink carefully placed into my skin. I admit it might not have been the smartest thing I’ve ever done. But it is done now. On the other hand the artwork is exactly what I wanted, and done in so many neat colors. I like it more each day. I am scared to death to go back home and visit my family though. I do not care what strangers think, my friends still love me, but omg what will my family think of me?

There is some pretty decent ink work among these photos. As usual, a cross-section of tattoo photos like this has some well executed pieces, some average pieces, some poorly executed ideas, some works-in progress, etc.
I don’t know if anyone has pointed it out, but that is one arm sleeved, it’s just a trick of perspective that fooled you there.

Even though it’s certain that some people would still have gotten overly defensive about the poking of fun at gamer tats, it would have gone over better if it had some humor in it. Something funny would have really helped this piece to be what it was apparently meant to be.
I think that not only should the overly defensive folks chill out, but also those who are making comments like, ‘unemployable’ and such, apparently in all seriousness, should realize that there is plenty of world that does not see things the way you do. And that basically makes you wrong when you assume that people are going to regret these tattoos because they (presumably) won’t be able to earn a living, or have friends or whatever. Amazing, I know, but apparently there is no certain correlation between tattoos and jobs, or significant others, or friends or whatever. Who knew? Knowing is half the battle though, so maybe making an effort to know is worth it sometimes.

I work at a shop (I’m not a tattoo artist, but I handle the appointments and customers), and I’d have to say that most of these tattoos are of poorer quality work than I’m used to. Some of them are alright. And chances are, some of them are because the people went in and said “I want this exactly.”

Also, it’s vitamin A&D ointment. Not E.

And if you’re going to give a negative judgment on something, make sure you back it up. Or else, obviously, people are going to rip into you.
