Here we have a case where somebody has taken a beautiful Tempest arcade game and stripped it out to shove a Wii into it. Did they just really gut a game worth $600-$1000 (depending on your market area) in order to use it as a somewhat novel Wii encasement? Yep, they did. What’s worse is that you can’t really enjoy this unless you’re standing up in front of the arcade cabinet, and you’re locked into a small TV. Gamers, respect the classics!
According to reports, they trashed the vector monitor (which are no longer made) that used to be in there too. Ouch.

That’s too bad. Tempest is a great game.
You know, if it wasn’t working or something as the parts were all damaged beyond repair and they got it cheap because of it, fine but damn.

Looks like it’s missing the spinner, so odds are pretty high they got it cheap. If they had even a broken vector monitor and trashed it, a darn shame, since there was stuff that probably could have been re-used for someone else’s vector.
I own a Galaxian, Centipede and Asteroids deluxe and only two of them have their original CRTs, all had been converted to other games. Good news is that I’m restoring them, and they were $10 each for two, and the Centipede was free, except for the paint stripper to reveal the orignal artwork still intact underneath. Agg!
