Just when the Gerstmann/Gamespot controversy couldn’t seem to get any more ridiculous, the boys over at Kotaku took notice of some strange happenings coming out of the Eidos PR machine. Apparently, well, not apparently, they are taking old comments, using them out of context, and slapping a 5-star rating on them for publication. Essentially, Eidos is falsifying review scores for their game. You’d think that after accusations of tampering with Gamespot that Eidos would lay low for a while, but instead they’re out there blatantly lying and misleading the gaming public.
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is a disaster of a game; and the actual review scores are backing up that statement. In fact, I was invited to come to a press event last month to see the game in California and chose to decline, simply because I knew that I was set to walk into an event where I’d have to grin pretend to enjoy myself all evening with the game while being secretly repulsed. Look, everybody releases a stinker once in a while, maybe it’s time Eidos simply owns up to it. Yes, Eidos offered to fly me down there on a Thursday night, put me up in a hotel until Saturday, and show me a good time while checking out their game. Nothing like trying to butter up the press before releasing a stinker, eh Eidos?
Here’s hoping that all this can just go away soon. I mean, it probably would sooner than later if Eidos would just cut the crap, come clean with the gaming community and admit that their product faced a “troubled development”, and move on to the next project.
