Nintendo announced today that Virtual Console sales for their Nintendo Wii download service has surpassed 4.7 million. According to the age of the Wii, that puts the rate of sales at over 1,000 titles per hour. The top five selling titles are all from Nintendo. They are:

1) Super Mario Bros.(NES)
2) Super Mario 64 (N64)
3) Mario Kart 64 (N64)
4) Super Mario World (SNES)
5) The Legend of Zelda (NES)

George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications, spoke of the Wii’s success saying: “With an Internet connection rate reaching 40 percent, Wii owners have more options than ever to find the kinds of games they love to play. Beyond the Wii Shop Channel, all types of people are getting connected and checking out the information and entertainment options available on the Wii Menu. Whether voting, creating a Mii or just checking the weather, everyone has a favorite channel.”

My goodness…that’s a lot of money for a few ROMs, isn’t it. You guys have some work to do, however, because Actraiser isn’t in the top 5. I want to see that game sitting right up alongside the Mario and Zelda titles.

Actraiser is a great game. I picked it up already and have finished it twice.

I thought George Harrison was dead.

Nope. Everybody’s favorite Beatle lives on as a Nintendo executive. Being around the games made him young again.
